Bangla Prosar Committee was formed in 1999, with a view primarily
to establish Bangla as a LOTE subject in New South Wales, Australia.
This would allow students of Bangla speaking parents to learn
their mothertongue effectively, by taking it as a subject for
HSC. The Committee has since worked towards this goal, however
the process of getting approval for Bangla as a LOTE subject from
the NSW Board of Studies (BDS) has proven long and difficult.
This is the gateway for information on all aspects of the growing
Bengali community in Australia. We provide a service to Bengali
residents of Australia, visitors, students and anyone who is interested
in Bengali life, culture and civilisation. Here you can find out
about coming events and make contact with community groups or
government agencies which may be able to help you with child care,
accommodation, traditional foodstuffs and many other matters.
We are especially keen to provide contacts for people new to Canberra
to help them settle into life in this city and in the Bengali

I am an expatriate Bangladeshi living in Australia. This is my
backpacking diary through Tahiti, Easter Island, Chile, Argentina
and Peru – mostly written on emails as I travelled. Throughout
the diary I expressed myself as I felt at that point in time –
trying to preserve the authenticity of my feelings of those moments.
Many Bangladeshis made Sydney, Australia their home. This is an
effort to build a bridge between Dhaka and Sydney.

Probasee Bengalee Association of New Zealand, formed by Bengalee
community in 1997. Up until the year 1994 or so, there were only
a handful of Bengalee families living in New Zealand.
